LATTO RECEIVES CRITICISM FOLLOWING RESURFACING OF ALLEGEDLY OFFENSIVE TWEETS TARGETING ASIAN INDIVIDUALS

Amidst the anticipation of Latto’s upcoming collaboration with BTS star Jung Kook, there has been a resurgence of alleged old tweets attributed to her, containing derogatory and stereotypical remarks targeting individuals of Asian descent.

The announcement of Kook’s debut solo single “Seven” has been scheduled for release on Friday (July 14), which was shared on social media by both Latto and Kook just days prior. However, during this interim period, screenshots of supposed old tweets, believed to have been written by the Atlanta rapper in 2015 and 2016, have resurfaced on the internet.

Although these posts no longer appear on her account, circulating screenshots suggest that Latto allegedly wrote a tweet saying, “You be cooking cats and dogs?” followed by what appears to be nonsensical Chinese text, accompanied by an emoji depicting a Chinese man and a bowl of soup. In another tweet, it is claimed that she responded to an Asian fan by saying, “Are you asking me if I care ling ling?”

Shortly after the incident where a fan threw something at her during a performance at Rolling Loud Germany, Latto faced criticism for her response, which involved threatening violence towards the individual. While dancing to her own song, she rapped, “You’ll get your ass beat. Throw it again. Throw it again. I’ll beat your ass. Throw it again.”

Nevertheless, Latto has expressed that her aspirations extend beyond the realm of music. In a June interview with Cosmopolitan, she disclosed her plans for the future, indicating that she has broader ambitions beyond her current musical endeavors.

“I want to explore my acting talents because I envision myself following a similar path as Rihanna,” shared Latto, the rapper and singer from Atlanta. “I don’t see myself solely focused on music indefinitely.”

She went on to explain, “Perhaps it’s because I’ve been involved in music for a significant period of time. Sometimes you yearn for more. Recently, I had my first taste of acting, and I instantly fell in love with it. I find myself drawn to more serious roles.”

Latto was among the talented musicians announced as guest stars for the sixth season of the popular ABC TV show, Grown-ish. According to Deadline, she joins an already impressive lineup that includes Lil Yachty, Anderson .Paak, and NLE Choppa.

In the series, Latto will portray the character Sloane, a wine representative. Additionally, Kelly Rowland will play a professor in charge of the psychology department, while Omarion will make an appearance as himself.
